It's no surprise that many talented pianists struggle to fit in on worship teams.

Classical players are trained to play everything on the sheet music, every note, all the dynamics, exactly as written.

Modern Contemporary Worship style? Totally different.

It’s flexible. Arrangements change, you might be asked to improvise a bit. Instead of following detailed sheet music, you get the lyrics and chords.

It can feel intimidating, or even leave you frustrated.

To help, we asked Joy from the Sunday Sounds team to share her journey coming from a classical training background how she made the jump into playing contemporary worship at church.

You'll learn some of the initial struggles, what helped Joy bridge the gap, what worship leaders should know, and how classical players can thrive on worship teams.

If you’ve ever wondered how to guide a classically trained musician, or if you are that musician...  Check out the video below, you’re going to love this.

I’ve found my biggest struggle starting from a classy background is you know what sound is coming from the piano, but with a keyboard you have unlimited sounds. Picking the best sound to accompany a piano in the team. You now have an unlimited amount of choices.
