In the keys world, you're often asked to play more than just a Piano. In fact, sometimes you might feel as though you're playing every instrument but a Piano... It's something really only a keyboard player can do (sorry guitar players)

You might be used to something simple, a Piano and Warm Pad that can work for any worship song. Or, maybe you like to have tons of sounds and instruments all playable, filling tons of space and dialed in for a specific worship song.

But is there an approach that's best?

And what if you're new to all of this, or trying to raise up new people on your team? Do you go all in with programming and layers? Or start simple and gradually build up?

Watch the video below to hear the differences between a simple keys Patch, and Patches that have tons of programming (up to 15 unique Sounds!) Check it out and comment on the video with your favorite!

I love all 3 and love to use each one in a different context, from full band with piano, electric & accoustic & bass guitars drums & keys. Here the power one works well for me, even the song specific, where I can pull specific sounds out for intro’s fill etc.
The first option is great in a small setting with fewer people and just me to play piano with some of those other lovely layers.

I honestly prefer the power patch. I love having some filler synth/pad sounds that build to more driving sounds, all while the piano stays audible. That is what works great if you are the only musician. If there are guitarist and/or a pianist, a simple patch or song specific patch can work great. And as others have mentioned, it really depends on the type of church and the music team.

I donˋt have a favorite patch, I love them all!
Playing in a church, can be so different, depending of the „Style“ of the church and how many players are available for the Sunday service. Even the soundystem quality and the right tech person on the mixer make a huge difference.

I play for myself at home and I mostly need a lot of fillings. I am still missing a drum kit, but I love the Sunday key app.

Is there a way I can get those patches?

I bet on simplicity. There are too many patches vying for their place. Eventually, you have to let go a little bit to make a sound that can serve.
A simple patch has room for the sound of prayer. It also has room for other instruments.
I think if you want to pray, you have to get used to letting go.
