Rapper's Delight has got to be the greatest song of all time.

Okay at least top five.

If you know anything about DJing you've probably heard of "crossfading" at least in passing. It's a technique pioneered by the early record spinners where you have a fader between two sources, allowing you to smoothly transition between them.

Did you know you can apply that technique to your MainStage patches?

Yep, you totally can and it only takes a minute to set up.

For this I like to use a horizontal fader, but you could use any fader or knob in MainStage.

Just drag the fader onto your concert in the "layout" mode and then select it in the "edit" mode. Map it to the first channel strip volume you'd like to control.

Then map it to the second channel strip volume and select "invert parameter range". Be sure to set the max levels to a similar volume.

And that's it! You can now smoothly blend between two channel strips on the fly.

This effect isn't limited to volume, either. You could use a crossfader to blend between two different kinds of reverbs, delays, or whatever else you can come up with!

Have fun playing around with crossfaders!
